Dreaming gerbil babies

in Gerbils

stolenkissgerbils.110mb.com 10 day old litter sleeps and dreams in my hand. Look at them twitching! They are, from left to right, Batman (boy), Sokiro (boy), Flick (girl), Chibi (girl), Haruki (boy). Note: You may have noticed that there are only 5 pups, but 6 were born (shown in other videos I uploaded). This is because one little male pup sadly died at about 18 hours old. The remaining 5 are fit and well.

You can definitely get him a gerbil friend. If he’s definitely a male you’ll have very little trouble introducing him to a young baby male pup. If you google “split cage introduction gerbil” you’ll find instructions on how to do it. Definitely don’t try him with the hammie though. You’d be asking for a bloodbath. You have no idea how lucky you are that Syrus actually gets along with Brooke! It’s almost unheard of!

White one? lol there were no whites in this litter! There’s a dove and a mottled lilac though - those are pale grey and grey with white markings.

that white one next to the black one and other white is really shiny

Depends what you mean by cinnamon, there are several colours that are a golden shade but their proper names aren’t anything like cinnamon. You could get any number of colours from that pair. They will all be lovely though I’m sure, no matter what their colours!
I got those colours because the parents both carried the genes to produce them, and the father carries the genes to give the lovely white markings.

how did you get them to be different colours?
what colours are best to breed together to get a litter with varied colour?
will dove and cinnamon have nice coloured pups?and what colour will they be? thanks
please reply x

To StolenkissGerbils =] My mom loves gerbils! We have a 2 [or 3?] year old gerbil named Delila =] she is a spotted slate, my moms youtube channel is sjegtvig. She has some videos of Delila

It could be black, white or even some other colours. It all depends on the genetics. It probably wouldn’t be black and white unless the white gerbil had hidden white markings that wouldn’t show up on a white coat. If you google gerbil genetics you should get some information on what to expect. Helps to know what colour the parents of your gerbils were too.

I just got my gerbils 3 days ago and I am watching now some gerbil videos, that one is one of the cutest videos I’ve ever seen :) I am glad they are alive :)

StolenkissGerbils 07.08.09 at 4:09 am

Well good for you for rescuing them :) I’m glad someone is willing to save small animals from abuse just as much as dogs or cats. :) Oh and congrats on the new gerbies ;)

StolenkissGerbils 07.08.09 at 4:09 am

None of these babies died, they are 7 months old now. I sold one, the black one with white patches. I kept the rest, all alive and well, and playing in their tanks next to me as I type!

jammydoors 07.08.09 at 4:09 am

some questions

did any of them die
did he sell some
have u kept all of them
and are they all alive today
:)

That’s the advice they tend to give newbies but I always handle mine from day 1 if the mothers are ok with it. Handling them before 3 weeks old (maybe 4, i forget) has been shown to reduce the chance of them having seizures in later life. I think it makes them less likely to be scared and have a seizure from the fright of being picked up. Unless the mother doesn’t like it there’s no reason not to handle them early if you know what you’re doing and are gentle and hygienic about it.
